Awaken: April 18th

Last night at Awaken we had a great time with some acoustic worship.  We began our worship with several songs.  Then we got right into the message.  We are in the middle of our “Means of Grace” series.  We are using this time of Lent to look at how we are in relationship and connected to God.  Last night we talked about solitude and silence.  Solitude is a means of grace.  We watched a short video from Rob Bell and then discussed how we find solitude.  After we brought the message together we had a time for prayer and meditation and then closed with one last song.  Thanks to all of you who made it out!  Come and join us next week at Awaken – Monday nights 8:00pm.  See you soon!

We will be in a different building tonight.  Normally we meet in the Baker Building on the campus of Texas Wesleyan University.  This week we will meet in Lou’s Pavilion on the campus of Texas Wesleyan University.  Lou’s Pavilion is north of the Baker Building on Wesleyan St. (the same street as the entrance of the Baker building).  Lou’s Pavilion is a building with lots of windows – and there is a small parking lot next to the building that you can park in.  Thanks for working with us on this move.  Next Monday we will be back in the Baker Building.  See you all tonight!

Check this map if you need more details.

Awaken: November 23rd

Last night at Awaken we had a great time in worship!  We began our worship with several songs.  It was nice to have Matt Roper back with us this week.  After singing several songs we got right into a time for the message.  We wrapped up our Irresistible Invitation series this week by taking a look back at what we have been talking about.  Responding to the Extravagant Heart of God.  We then talked a little about making a commitment to our place of worship or church.  Then we spent some time in prayer and meditation.  We closed with a final song and our benediction.  Come and join us next week at Awaken.  See you soon!

Awaken: September 28th

We had a great night at Awaken last night.  We began our worship with several songs, led by the band.  After that we went right into the message.  Rev. Kyland Dobbins continued our series, “Revelation and the Ridiculous.”  We talked about all of the different things in the book of Revelation like the beast with six wings full of eyes, the seven spirits, the seven seals, the four horsemen and all that.  We talked about how the book of Revelation is using these things to keep our attention and the overall message is one of worship and hope.  All of creation worshipping.  Afterwards we had a time of prayer and meditation.  Then closed with a prayer.  Come and join us next week as we conclude our series on the book of Revelation.  Bring a friend and we will see you soon!

Awaken: June 1st

Tonight at Awaken we had a great time.  We began our worship with several songs and some prayer. Then we jumped right into the message. We are in our series on Holistic Holiness and the 5 practices of fruitful congregations.  This week we were talking about Extravagant Generosity.  “What does it mean for our generosity to be extravagant?”   We talked about some of the teachings from Jesus and we looked at what Paul had to say about it in Colossians 3:1-4.  If we were to give as those who are made in God’s image, what kind of Extravagant Generosity would we practice?  Come and join us next week as we wrap up this series talking about Risk-Taking Mission and Service.  Bring a couple of friends with you next week and invite 5 people to come to Awaken some time this week.  See you soon.

How can we pray with you?  Let us know.  Leave us a comment on this page.  The picture above is our prayer board.  Each week we put up our joys, concerns, celebrations, and request so that we can use this as a guide throughout the week and be in prayer with one another.  We hope that you will join us in prayer.

Awaken: March 23rd

We had a great time last night at Awaken.  We began our worship with several songs and some prayer.  After some singing we went into our Open Source sermon series.  Last night we talked about worship and the discipline of worship.  We talked about what worship is to us and we shared some ways and times we worship.  We talked about worship being when we know, feel, and experience God in our lives and in a gathered community.  We talked about worship being a response and as Paul says in Romans, “the only reasonable response is worship”.  We learn to worship by worshipping.  Practice is something that we have discovered is important in all disciplines.  This was a great night and it was great to hear all of the wonderful comments and some of our struggles that we can share with each other as a faith community.  Come and join us next week at Awaken as we conclude our Open Source Sermon Series on the Spiritual Disciplines by looking at the discipline of celebration.  Bring a friend to join you and we will see you soon.  Check out the prayer board in the next post.
