I am Jonah. part 4

Tomorrow night we will conclude our “I am Jonah” series.  We have already gone through the first three chapters in the book of Jonah and this week we will be looking at chapter 4.  We will be talking about “the problem with love” – come and find out what it is all about.  We will be in a different building on Monday night than our normal Baker Building.  We will be in Lou’s Pavilion – on the campus of Texas Wesleyan University.  Lou’s Pavilion is North of the Baker Building on Wesleyan St. (same street as the Baker Building entrance).  It will be a building with lots of windows. It is hard to miss it.  Bring a friend to join us and we will see you and your friend very soon.

Awaken: February 21st

Last night at Awaken we had a great time of worship and fellowship!  We began our worship with some singing.  We sang several songs together and then we went into our time for the message.  Mel Strom continued our series, “I am Jonah.”  We are in chapter three of the book of Jonah and we are talked about the “mission to the messed up.”  Jonah finally, after being spit up, goes to Nineveh to tell the people that they need to stop doing what they were doing (bad stuff).  Even the most messed up of people still deserve to hear God, and so Jonah goes.  When he tells them – they stop!  We talked a little about accountability – and where we find ours.  How are you held accountable?  We then went on to talk about forgiveness – we talked about God forgiving the Ninevites.  God forgives!  Afterwards we had a time of prayer and meditation.  We then closed our worship gathering with one final song and our benediction.  Come and join us next week at Awaken – we will be concluding our Jonah series and talking about “the problem with love.”  Bring a friend and tell another friend and we will see you soon!

I am Jonah. part 3

Come and join us for worship tonight at Awaken – 8:00pm.  We meet in the Baker Building on the campus of Texas Wesleyan University.  Parking for the building can be found behind the building, across the street, or in any of Wesleyans parking lots.  Tonight we will continue our “I am Jonah.” series.  We will be talking about “mission to the messed up.”  This is going to be a great night, so invite a friend(s) to come with you and we will see you really soon!

Your Love Never Fails

Your Love Never Fails, by Jesus Culture.  This is the song that the band introduce to us on Monday night.  If you missed it here is the band Jesus Culture playing their song Your Love Never Fails.

Awaken: February 14th

Happy Valentine’s Day!  We had a great time on Monday night at Awaken!  We began our worship by singing several songs together.  The band introduced us to a new song called, “Your Love Never Fails” by Jesus Culture.  This is a great song and it goes right with the series that we find ourselves in!  Mel Strom continued the series, I am Jonah.  Mel talked to us about grace beneath the waves.  In chapter two of the book of Jonah we find Jonah thrown into the water and sinking and being wrapped up in seaweed and just then a big fist comes and swallows him up!  Even though Jonah was in the belly of a whale, he was safe!  That is grace beneath the waves.  We all may have times when we may feel overwhelmed or that nothing is going right, times when we are sinking, but God is there with us – there is grace beneath the waves!  After the message we had a time for prayer and meditation.  Then we closed our worship gathering with one final song and our benediction.  Come and join us next week as we continue in the story of Jonah.  We will be talking about “mission to the messed up.”  Bring a couple of friends with you next week and tell a couple of more about Awaken and we will see you all really soon.

I am Jonah. part 2

This week we will continue the series, “I am Jonah”, that we started last week.  Last week we talked about running and chasing.  We talked about how often times we find ourselves running from the call, but God is always there right next to us.  Sometimes running away is part of the journey.  Tonight we find ourselves in part 2 of our series on Jonah.  We will be talking about grace beneath the waves.  Last week, when we left Jonah he had been swallowed up and was inside of a very large fish… lets find out what happens – tonight!  Tell a couple of friends to come and join us and bring a couple of more and we will see you all tonight.

Awaken: February 7th

Running and chasing!  This was a great night.  We began our worship by singing several songs together.  After some singing we dove into the message.  Mel Strom kicked off our series called, “I am Jonah.”  We are looking at the book of Jonah during this series.  Mel talked to us last night about how we all relate to Jonah and how we can see ourselves in Jonah.  God calls us to do things in our life that we don’t always want to do.  We often run away from that call – sometimes running away is part of the journey.  The further you run the closer God will chase.  After the message we had a time of prayer and meditation.  We then closed our worship service with one last song and our bendiction.  Thanks to all who made it out.  See you all soon!

I am Jonah.

This February we are beginning a series called “I am Jonah”.  Mel Strom will bring the message each week in February and you will not want to miss it!  We are very excited about this series and you will be too!  Grab a couple of friends and come out to the Baker Building on the campus of Texas Wesleyan and join us for worship.  Tell your friends and we will see you all soon!

Awaken: January 31st

Awaken was great this past week… and we were able to get it in right before a winter ice storm that trapped us all in the rest of the week.  We began our worship by singing together several songs.  After a little singing we went into a time for the message.  Rev. Kyland Dobbins, Associate Pastor at Meadowbrook United Methodist Church brought the message this week.  Rev. Dobbins is no stranger to Awaken, as he is a regular speaker.  Thanks Kyland for worship[ing with us!  After the message we shared in communion with one another.  We did communion “meal style” and had plenty of Jesus to go around.  We then closed with one final song and spent some time in fellowship afterwards while eating together.  This was a great night of communion!  Thanks to all that made it out.  Come and join us at Awaken in February as we begin a new series called “I am Jonah”.  See you all soon!
