Awaken: May 25th

Passionate Worship.  This is the fourth week in our series and the third practices that we are looking at.  Do you come to worship expecting to encounter God?  What are we expecting when we come to worship?  Do we come looking for God? Do we come seeking to discover?  Are we worshipping passionately?  All of these are questions that I would ask you to consider.  Looking at the passage in Isaiah 6:1-8 we see that worship is about seeing the Lord.  It is not something that we do out of habit, it is not a performance.  Worship is an encounter with God.  Passionate Worship is the kind of worship that takes us to a new place where we can see God differently than we have ever seen God before.   On Tuesday nights are you worshipping passionately? Come and join us next week at Awaken.  Bring a friend or two to join us and we will be talking about extravagant generosity.

Passionate Worship

Tonight we will continue our series on the 5 practices of fruitful congregations and talking about Holistic Holiness.  Last week we looked at intentional faith development and the week before that we talked about radical hospitality.  Tonight we will be talking about passionate worship tonight.  We will be looking at Isaiah and an experience he had when he saw the Lord.  We will discover things we learn from Isaiah and this passage about what is means to have passionate worship.  When you come to worship do you expect to encounter God?  What do we expect when we come to worship?  Do we come looking for God?  Do we come seeking to discover?  Are we worshipping passionately?  Come and worship with us tonight!  Bring a friend to join us and we will see you soon.

Family Fun Day!

Come and join us for a day of fun at Glen Lake Camp and Retreat Center.
June 12th – 10:00am – 5:00pm.
1102 NE Barnard St.  Glen Rose, Texas
Click here for the facebook invite.

Glen Lake Camp is our conference camp and retreat center. We will have access to the water park, the gym, hiking, lake, and more!!!

We will leave the Meadowbrook UMC parking lot at 8:30am and head to Glen Rose, Texas where the camp is located just at the edge of town. Feel free to meet us there. It is easy to find! We will leave the camp at 5:00pm to return to Fort Worth.

Glen Lake Camp has a state of the art Water Park facility with life guards. Because we raised the most funds for the Metro Board Auction, we have “free” use of the Water Park and many of the other facilities at the camp.

We want everyone to plan on bringing a “Picnic” style lunch for your friends and family and we will all enjoy a big Meadowbrook Family Picnic together on the beautiful camp grounds.

For those that are not Water Park people, there will be loads of things to do such as games (bring your own), basketball in the gym, sand volleyball, exploring the river, sitting around storytelling, etc… Some may want to explore the shops around to square in historic Glen Rose.

Feel free to bring a friend to join us! It is going to be a blast!
Be thinking about car pooling and inviting friends!
You will hear more about this at Awaken.  Please ask questions if you have them.

Awaken: May 18th

Tonight at Awaken we had a great time.  We began our worship with several songs.  After that we dove right into the message.  The series we are in right now is about Holistic Holiness and 5 practices to Holistic Holiness.  Tonight we talked about Intentional Faith Development.  We looked at the story of Jesus calling the first disciples and the intentionality they displayed in following Jesus.  We talked about what it means to be purposefully growing in what we believe.  Community provides a network for support and it is in those communities that we grow in Christ.  We heard the story of Zacchaeus and how he was intentional about his faith development.  Intentional faith development involves choosing to place ourselves where God’s Spirit can shape us into persons who show love of God.  The post before this has a question in it, “What Do You Want to Know“.  In being intentional about faith development we want to know what you want to study, hear, learn, and experience at Awaken.  Let us know.

Come and join us next week as we look at Passionate Worship.  Bring a friend to join us and we will see you soon.  Check back here soon and often!  Be looking for information about our fun day at Glen Lake Camp.

What Do You Want to Know?

Tonight in worship we talked about Intentional Faith Development.  We talked about what it means to be purposeful about growing in what we believe.  You were asked to think about some learning opportunities.  You were asked to think about what you most want to learn about the faith?  Maybe some questions that you have. This will help us to plan different series that we will be doing at Awaken in the future.  Tell us what you think.  You can drop us a comment on this post (it gives you the option of going anonymous or not) or you can send us an email at – patrick@mbrookumc.org or awakenworship@hotmail.com

Intentional Faith Development

We are in week 3 of our series on the 5 practices of fruitful congregations.  The first week we talked about Holistic Holiness.  Then last week we talked about Radical Hospitality and how that looks.  We talked about the invitation, the welcome, the inclusion, and the support.  This week we will be talking about Intentional Faith Development.  What is intentional faith development?  Why is it important?  What does intentional faith development have to do with being fruitful?  I am sure you can come up with answers for these questions.  Think about it.  See you Tuesday night.  Oh and practice some of that radical hospitality and invite a friend to come with you tomorrow.
