Prayer Board for April 27th

How can we be in prayer with you?  This is our prayer board.  Each week at Awaken we have the opportunity to share our joys, concerns, celebrations, and request with one another via the prayer board.  We like to do this in order to have a visual of prayers and so that we can share those request with you.  We ask that you be in prayer with us this week and if you have anything to add to the board please do.  All you have to do is drop us a comment on this post and then we will see it when we look here.  Check back soon and often to see the request.

Awaken: April 27th

Last night at Awaken we had a great time!  We had a plethora of Starbucks pastries and baked goods donated for us to feast on (we then donated the rest to starving college students at Texas Wesleyan University.  We began our worship by singing several songs together.  Justin Mikulencak concluded the series that we started three weeks ago.  This week Justin led us through the story of Jesus and Lazarus in John.  We talked about several meanings that we see in the story.  Justin talked about some of the “grave-clothes” that we wear and need to shed.  After some message time we had a time for prayer and meditation.  We then closed with one final song and read together our benediction.  Special thanks to Kevyn Kersen for rockin it on the drums last night (Kevyn was back in town this week and loves to jam with us when he can, so that happened).  Come and join us next week as we begin a new series that will stretch from May 4th through June 8th.  We will be looking at Holistic Holiness and Practices.  Bring a friend to join us and we will see you next week.  Be sure and check back here on the blog soon and often to see more updates and stay updated with what is going on at Awaken.  See you soon!

Latvija

As many of you remember last week we had some special guest, Kristine Vainovska and Rev. Gita Mednis, from Latvia with us for worship at Awaken.  This is a picture from last week after Awaken.

You can see all of the above links in the column on the right under “Imagine No Malaria” (“INM” stands for Imagine No Malaria.)

Every 30 seconds a child dies from malaria. It is a disease that is preventable and treatable. We eliminated it in America in the 1950s, but today 90% of deaths from malaria occur in sub-Saharan Africa.

Our conference raised $135,276 with the Nothing But Nets Annual Conference offering in 2007, resulting in 13,527 bed nets now providing protective coverage for families in Africa! Imagine No Malaria is the next step in the goal of ending suffering and death from this preventable disease. It continues to include bed nets, but expands into other areas of prevention, treatment, education, and communicating life-saving information.

Our conference’s minimum goal with the 2010 Annual Conference offering is the equivalent of $1 for every member of this conference — about $164,000. Individual contributions can be made through your local church. Totals will be reported during the 2010 Annual Conference June 6-9 in Fort Worth. The INM offering will continue through the end of this year and on until our goal of $1 per member has been reached.

We anticipate a celebration of accomplishment in June 2011!
