AWESOME! We opened with several songs. The band introduced a couple of new songs this week. We introduced Beautiful Collision and Deliver Me, both by David Crowder Band. After some songs we talked about the word “awesome” and what it means. Mel Strom led us in the conversation. We watched a clip of some people doing some things that seem to be pretty awesome, but is it really awesome, or is that just the watered down version of the word awesome? Awesome is found in the NIV translation of the bible 34 times! The word awesome means to inspire awe. The word awesome means to be inspired by an overwhelming feeling of reverence, admiration, fear, etc., produced by that which is grand, sublime, extremely powerful. We talked about things that we experience that are truly awesome. Most of the time when we use the word “awesome” we are not talking about some that is truly awesome are we? We are usually just talking about something that is really impressive. We are usually just talking about some guy that does back flips, some neat car, or someone doing something crazy! Mel challenged us this week to think about being awesome and the awesome moments that we have throughout the week.
Do not be terrified by them, for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a great and awesome God. -Deuteronomy 7:21
And who is like your people Israel—the one nation on earth whose God went out to redeem a people for himself, and to make a name for yourself, and to perform great and awesome wonders by driving out nations from before your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt? -1 Chronicles 17:21
How awesome is the LORD Most High, the great King over all the earth! -Psalm 47:12
Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man’s behalf! -Psalm 66:5
