General Conference Young Persons Event just happened!

That just happened!  Over 200 people came out for the Youth and Young Adult General Conference Event.  People from North Carolina and further came out to Meadowbrook UMC for music, food, and fellowship.  If you would like to hear from some of the delegates from the Central Texas Conference you can go to their blog here. 

Glen Lake Camp and Retreat Center came out to provide us with some games.  They had a basketball goal set up and more in the parking lots.  Several people played a little 2-on-2-on-2 basketball… it is a new sport popping up all over the state.  Frisbees, washers, footballs, and more…

John Carter’s catered the event with chicken fried steak, fried chicken, green beans, corn, mac&cheese, rolls, some amazing bread pudding, and sweet sweet tea for all.  The mac&cheese was so delicious that some asked for the recipe.  I want more thinking about it right now…

We had several bands come out to play some music for us in the sanctuary.  The student band from First Mansfield UMC, led by Josh Nix came out and kicked us off with some worship.  White’s Chapel UMC student band, led by Miles Hall played a couple of songs after that.  Finally a band from Dallas called Edge closed us with some music of their own and some familiar worship songs.  You can go to their website to hear a couple of their songs.  Check it out it will be worth it.  The concert was great!

In other general conference news… the first ever young peoples address was given last week.  You can check it out online here.  The address was given on Thursday, April 24th.  There are six different videos on their to watch… and you should.

General Conference Youth Event!

Tonight is the General Conference Youth Event hosted by the Central Texas Conference and the North Texas Conference Student Ministries.  It is here at Meadowbrook United Methodist Church from 5:30pm to 8:00pm.  There will be food and live music.  The student band from White’s Chapel UMC, the student band from Mansfield UMC, and a band called Edge.  This is an exciting time for Youth in the Methodist Church.  Come and be a part of this.  Young people from all over the world will be here to hang out and have a little fun.

Awaken: April 27th

This past week at Awaken was great!  We had sandwiches for dinner and drumsticks/ice cream sandwiches for desert.  How many of you perfer the drumstick ice cream cone over the ice cream sandwich?  I am all about the drumstick… Tyler however loves the ice cream sandwich…. After dinner we began worship.  We sang some songs and then watch a Rob Bell Nooma video called Breathe.  After the video we had a time of prayer and then closed out with a song!  Come out and join us next week at Awaken!  See you soon!

ZOE ministry – this is the newest link.  ZOE Ministry is an advanced project of the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church.  It is about caring for orphans and vulnerable children in Africa.

Awaken: April 20th

This week at Awaken we had sausage and biscuits and gravy, and it was delicious.  After dinner we began our worship with some songs.  Special thanks to Matt Roper this week for filling in on leading us in worship.  Rev. Jim Chandler brought us the message this week from the Psalms.  Specifically he spoke from Psalm 30:5b which reads… The nights of crying your eyes out give way to days of laughter.  Come out and join us next week at Awaken for some more Free FOOD and worship.  Food begins at 5:00pm and worship starts at 5:45pm.  Bring a friend and we will see you there!

Awaken: April 13th

Sloppy Joes… and tater tots! Delicious.  This week we opened up with this videoabout FREE HUGS.  We sang some other songs and then we watched a video.  The video was title Rich and it is from the Rob Bell Nooma series that you can check out here if you are interested.  We introduced a new song this week that you will hear plenty in the future at Awaken.  The song is called Sweetly Broken, by Jeremy Riddle.  Come and join us next week for more FREE food and worship.  FREE Food starts at 5:00pm and Worship begins at 5:45pm.  Bring a friend and we will see you Sunday!

Awaken: April 6th

We had breakfast for dinner last night (below you can check out a photo).  A lot of new faces this past week at Awaken.  We are glad to have you and we hope you will join us again next week!  This week we talked about Matthew 23: 1-28 and 1 John 2: 3-6.  We talked about walking the walk.  We talked about true spirituality.  Rev.
